Hartge Tunes the BMW X6 xDrive35d
While we Yanks are happy to have a choice of turbocharged gas engines in our X6, Europeans also have the additional option of BMW's excellent 3.0-liter twin-turbo diesel engine. German tuner Herbert Hartge and his team have pushed the X6 xDrive35d to new levels of performance by enhancing the engine's programming.
The result is a bump from 265 hp to 328, and an increase in torque from 425 lb-ft to 498. The two-and-a-half-ton vehicle jumps to 62 mpg in just six seconds now, and is free to run to an aerodynamically-limited top speed of 160 mph. thanks to the removal of the electronic speed limiter.
Naturally, the German firm has also tuned the appearance of the X6 to go with its new power. Hartge's Classic 2 wheels, measuring 22 inches in diameter - 10.5" wide in front, 12" wide in back - are fitted with 295/30ZR22 and 335/25/ZR22 tires to fill the bodywork. The requisite body styling enhancements include a new front bumper and a diffuser-type rear bumper, both of which meet up with wheel arch extensions at each fender. Enhanced rocker extensions tie the front and rear treatments together, while carbon mirror caps lend a motorsport element to the design. Stainless exhaust tip poke through the rear valence to finish off the treatment.
Inside, the Hartge team has infused the X6 with improvements befitting the exterior upgrades. A 300 km/h speedometer displays prominently, thanks to the silver metallic finish; naturally the tachometer matches. A three-spoke steering wheel in black leather with carbon fiber inserts dominates the driver's environment, which is enhanced with aluminum pedals. A variety of carbon dash door and console parts are also available for a custom-trimmed look.
I f you lived in Germany, you could have Hartge do the full conversion - performance, body and interior - for a mere €29,354. We'll let you do the currency conversion.
