LAS VEGAS, NV (Nov. 1, 2006) – KONI North America, the world leader in shock absorber technology, will take an important role in motorsports in 2007 as the title sponsor of the Grand-Am Cup Series, to be renamed the KONI Challenge.

“This is an important day for us,” declared Jim Vance, KONI North America General Manager. “Sponsorship of this hotly contested racing series strengthens KONI’s position of being in the forefront of motorsports competition, an important part of what KONI is today. We believe motorsports helps validate our product and accurately demonstrates how it performs in such a demanding environment.”

“Like other manufacturers, we intend on using the KONI Challenge as a testbed for new product, as well as a showcase for the company,” added Lee Grimes, KONI Automotive and Motorsports Manager. “We’re at racetracks virtually every week of the year supplying and servicing KONI product, and we welcome the chance to work with all the teams that compete in this exciting series.”

The KONI Challenge is a road racing series for the latest in international and domestically produced high performance coupes and sedans, and receives significant support from many automotive manufacturers. Only major modifications permitted are in the areas of safety and because costs remain low to participate, the KONI Challenge typically boasts full fields of more than 50 cars competing in the Grand Sport (GS) and Street Tuner (ST) classes.

“It’s important for KONI to consistently have a presence in motorsports, as we presently do in Formula 1, Formula 3, GP2, the Indy Pro Series and drag racing, and the KONI Challenge is yet another series where we can make a strong contribution,” Vance said.
